Gist Piano Center to Host Dr. Joseph Akins and Philip Wesley for PIE Appreciation Days

Based in Nashville, pianist-composer, Dr. Joseph Akins, blends his Southern roots with a variety of musical styles.

In appreciation for members of our renowned Partners In Education (PIE) program, Gist Piano Center will host a pair of master classes and concerts with noted Nashville musicians Dr. Joseph Akins and Philip Wesley. The events will take place at Gist Piano Center in Louisville on Friday, September 6th and at Gist Piano Center Lexington on Friday, September 7th.

At 5pm on each day, Akins and Wesley, will present a workshop on practice, performance, and creativity at the piano. At 7pm on each day, the duo will perform a lively piano concert. General admission for each event is $10, but PIE Members will receive FREE admission to all events. Tickets may be purchased online or by calling 1-800-838-3006. Additional tickets may be available at the door if the shows do not sell out in advance.

As an additional thank-you to our PIE Family, each Gist location will open at 9am on its event day (Louisville – Sept 6, Lexington – Sept 7). We will also offer a 20% discount on all piano music and accessories (40% OFF selected clearance items) during those two days as a show of appreciation to our PIE family. We have even put up a large selection of Halloween music in prep for our Nationally-Celebrated Halloweekend event!

During the evening events, Dr. Joseph Akins and Philip Wesley will share their music as heard around the World on Pandora Radio, Music Choice, XM, Sirius and more. You won’t want to miss this fun evening of music, education and door prizes. You will even have an opportunity to meet the artists at their CD and sheet music table after the show!

Living in greater Nashville, Dr. Joseph Akins (www.josephakins.com) is an active pianist/composer and associate professor at Middle Tennessee State University. As a pianist/composer, he has released four solo albums. “A Piano Christmas” (2011) was nominated as Best Holiday Album of the Year at SoloPiano.com, and “Spirit Touch” (2009) was included in the Top 40 Solo Piano Albums of the Decade for 2000 2009 at MainlyPiano.com. As a professor at MTSU, Joseph teaches courses in MIDI, musicianship and new media. Before launching his solo piano career and starting at MTSU around 2000, he earned music degrees in jazz piano and electronic music from the University of Tennessee and Radford University. He also performed with many jazz, rock and country bands as a keyboard player. In 2006, he earned a doctorate from Tennessee State University.
